Google Extensions, Apps, and Add-on's

Google has created different ways to enhance the user experience. In Google Chrome, the internet browser, they have created extensions and apps. For Google Drive Docs and Sheets, they can created Add-on's. When added, these create additional features. However, many times it gets confusing which does what. Here is how Google defines them:

Chrome Extensions

Extensions are small software programs that can modify and enhance the functionality of the Chrome browser. By using extensions, you can customize Google Chrome with features you like, while keeping your browser free of things that you don't use.

Chrome Apps

With apps for Google Chrome, you can do things like create documents, edit photos, and listen to music. They’re like desktop software programs you install on your computer. The main difference is that you use apps directly within your browser. If you use Gmail, Google Maps, or sites like Pandora, you're already using apps.

Google Drive Add-on's

To add more functionality to your documents and spreadsheets, you can install add-ons, tools built by third-party developers for Google Docs and the new version of Sheets. Examples of add-ons could include a document approval system, digital signature app, mail-merge app, or a suite of custom financial functions for spreadsheets.
